The 10th installment of The Stormwater Speaker Series wrapped in Los Angeles, June 5. What started off as a modest forum has transformed itself into a sought-after stormwater event that has traveled across Southern and Northern California over the last 3.5 years. As Torrent continues to introduce new speakers and topics there’s no signs of stopping! The Stormwater Speaker Series aims to transform itself along with energetic conversation, engaging new formats, and networking opportunities.
As part of the momentum, we carved out time for ‘Plans & Pastries’, a 1-hour networking segment prior to scheduled presentations that is intended to allow ample time for Torrent team members to review project plans with attendees. Many took advantage of the opportunity to network with the diverse knowledge group as well as our Technical Marketing Engineers.
Bill De Jong, Director of Technical Marketing (CA), kicked off the morning with his presentation, “Recharging Local Aquifers through Stormwater Capture and Infiltration,” which focuses on the MaxWell systems as a qualified engineered design to meet deep infiltration specifications.
Attendees enjoyed a fun and interactive demonstration from LGC Geotechnical’s, Dennis Boratynec, P.E., G.E., during his presentation titled, “Geotechnical Considerations Associated with Infiltration of Stormwater.”
Yvana Hrovat’s (P.E.) of Geosyntec Consultants informative presentation on, “Strides Towards Integrated Resource Management,” shared up-to-date information on the newest stormwater legislation, Measure W. Closing out the seminar, attendees enjoyed a shared presentation from Margot Jacobs (P.E.) and Jeff Hutchins (PLA, ASLA) of Studio-MLA on, “Designing with Water,” where they shared their approach to landscape architecture and BMP opportunities within their own case studies.
While the series is primarily intended for engineering professionals, it is appropriate for anyone interested in stormwater and how it’s managed. We were fortunate enough to meet with over 450+ engineering professionals over the course of the last 10 Stormwater Speaker Series events and look forward to seeing many more in 2019 and beyond.
